DESCRIPTION:
FOR SALE JENSEN HEALEY (LOTUS) CONVERTIBLE WITH FACTORY HARDTOP
I have a lovely 1974 Jensen Healey for sale. The car was built in Dec. of 1973. I has been refurbished to a high driver quality standard, but its not perfect. The car works well and had recent brakes renewed front and rear, calipers restored and new pads. The car has new adjustable GB shocks which are adjustable for ride rebound etc. Sway bars front and rear, new tires and wheels, rebuilt Stromberg Carbs, recent repair of an oil leak by a Lotus specialist who also readjusted the valves, timing, and tune and did a very complete inspection of the engine. He said it was in good condition, and the car has had a valve job during its life. The crank is stock size which indicates its still under 2 liters. The car's interior is all new, including the addition of a wood dash, new seats, carpet and so on. The floors were inspected and repaired where needed and sealed. The gas tank has been completely cleaned and a new fuel pump installed, along with new lines and the metal fuel lines have been thoroughly cleaned. The car runs extremely well. It keeps up with modern traffic with ease. It’s a 4 speed and the trans works as expected. Fresh fluids have been added, including Red Line MTL in the trans and rear end (makes a big difference). The car comes with the factory jack and such, as well as the factory wheels (13 inch) and good tires which have been properly stored. The hard top is a factory type model and in good condition. The soft top is in good workable condition with a clear rear window. Full “canvas” comes with the car. The car has a modern Jensen Radio (get it?), which is kind of fun, but a completely different company. Radio has blue tooth etc. The car preforms well and looks great. It's one of some 10,400 built over 4 years. Research shows that about 7,000 of the cars built came to North America from England. 2500 or so were sold in England. A few examples ended up in Australia. A longtime member of the Orange County Jensen Healey club told me that he did not think there were more than 4000 left in running condition in the US, which makes the car quite unusual, but maybe not rare. The odometer shows mileage of 12,673 and I am sure that over the last 25 plus years of the car's life, that mileage is accurate, but I cannot so attest prior years. The car has “lived” in Southern California and in a shop in Utah its whole life, so rust is not an issue. Near as I can tell, it's had one initial owner, then my friend owned it, later his son, then back to my friend, and for 5 years I have cared for it. I have greatly enjoyed saving this car, and now it's time for another to enjoy it and care for it. Please text or e mail first as I screen calls on the phone and don’t answer unknown phone numbers. A good many pics of the car with the interior removed are available. Why does the ad say Jensen Healey Lotus, because the engine was sourced from Lotus cars back when the car was developed. The engine was one of the first production engines with double overhead cams and a full crank girdle which allowed for over 7,000 RPM redlines. One of the reasons the brand won the SCCA D Production National Title 4 years in a row. There is more to the story of course as there often is with unusual old cars. If interested check with YouTube as there are both historical videos as well as restoration videos online for additional information.
