*** You MUST make sure you read the entire ad before you reply ***
This is a 1983 GMC Suburban. It is a 3/4 ton, four wheel drive, 6.2L diesel powered truck. It has a four speed automatic overdrive transmission. This truck also has an upgraded Banks turbocharger kit installed. This truck runs and drives, and would be a good truck for someone who wants to slowly fix one up as they drive it, or an excellent starting point for a restoration, as it’s mostly solid with very little rust. The body is fairly straight, the interior is pretty good overall, and the truck drives reasonably well. Having said all that, this is a 42 year old unrestored truck, so set your expectations accordingly. Odometer reads ~49k miles, though I’m assuming it’s rolled over once, making it 149k miles. The engine has a block heater installed, which definitely helps starting it when it’s really cold outside.
I do not know this truck’s history going back very far, but the presence of a GM Goodwrench sticker on the driver’s side valve cover makes me think it has a newer engine in it (maybe a warranty replacement back in the day?). Who knows. It runs well and makes good power. It does make a fair amount of blue oil smoke when started up cold, but this smoke goes away completely when warm. The transmission shifts very well and firm in all gears. No issues to report. Brakes work well, including the hydrost power assist. Could use a front end alignment and probably some shocks, but rides reasonably well otherwise. Could use some tires.
The interior is complete and pretty decent overall. There’s some staining in the rear cargo area. No third seat. This truck was never smoked in, has no interior smells to speak of. The gauges and climate control blower fan do not work. It has power windows, but the driver’s door window does not work. All others are very slow. Has a tilt steering column, with cruise control.
Please, do me a favor.. I understand you will have specific questions about this particular truck.. but if you haven’t even decided yet whether or not a 40+ year old diesel Suburban is right for you, you need to sort that out BEFORE you reply. I don’t need to waste my time telling you about this truck only for you to decide you want something else entirely. So please, decide whether or not you want this kind of truck before you reply.
What else is there to say? It’s an unrestored old truck that could be easily fixed up as you drive it. I have clean Nevada title in hand. The truck is located about 12 minutes from downtown Carson City. My is cash. Absolutely no trades of any kind, payment plans, or any other nonsense. Cash only, no exceptions. I don’t need help selling, and I won’t entertain hard lowballers. If you’re in the market for one of these and you’re serious about this one and want to make an offer, the time to do so is when you’re standing in front of me with cash. For anyone interested from out of state, we keep our license plates here and have to turn them in when we sell vehicles, hence the lack of plates on the truck. Both Nevada and California have decriminalized driving without plates/registration, so as long as you have insurance, driving this rig home without plates shouldn’t cause you any trouble at all.
When you respond, please make sure you include your phone number, as I will not be replying to emails. You will NOT get a reply if you do not include your number. Thanks for looking.
