DESCRIPTION:

For your consideration is my 1986 BMW E24 635CSI. This car has been in my ownership for over a decade and has seen use ranging from daily driver to long term non-op. In many ways, the 635CSi is a superlative car and produces prodigious speed, thanks to its 3.4-liter engine. It is put together with rare acumen albeit aged with grace. Its ergonomics are generally excellent and all told, the 635CSi is a very accomplished piece of work. This example shows obvious cosmetic signs of regular wear due to its near 40 years of prowling roads while major components are mechanically sound. The laundry list of components changed and revamped is sure to keep this daily driver on the road for years to come.

Relays, engine control modules, fuses. And more….

The Bad

Leak in AC system, compressor engages but freon would leak. NO AC
Sunroof stuck closed due to an aftermarket seal.
Rear defrost inop
Door seals are shot
Driver side door central locking (feature?)
Seat tears
Supplemental Instruction Board INOP

The Ugly

Front splitter scratched
Headliner drooping
Paint chips, dings, scratches, minor bubbling in small locations +rear tint
Its an old car, what do you expect…

In summation, despite this car having its flaws it has never failed to put a smile on my face while driving it nor has it left me stranded. The boaty steering and comfortable suspension sings odes to a time where car manufacturers had cigarette lighters and leather in their interiors rather than TV screens and backup cameras. The E24 turns heads wherever it goes and I would be remiss to say I myself don't turn around to take another peak after I park the thing. Cosmetic flaws aside, it saddens me to depart with this shark but hope it would go to a new enthusiast's home.
