DESCRIPTION:
Beautiful 1989 "White Star" Wolfsburg Vanagon. New engine and custom remodeled interior/exterior featuring a full-size dining room for four and rooftop tent/deck.
Mechanics:
- Transmission: Automatic
- Engine: Water-cooled 2.1L, completely new build JUNE 2024 by Tassi in Daly city. Drives well, much quieter, I've put less than 500 miles on this engine
- Mileage - less than 50 miles on the new engine. Somewhere in the 150-160 range on the vehicle as a whole - per previous owner odometer went out around 110k, then they put ~30k on it, I've had the vehicle 4 years and have put 10-12k on it.
- Clean title in hand
- Smogged
- Body Condition = 9/10, all original paint
- Interior Condition = 9/10, immaculate for a 30+ year old vehicle (front seat upholstery is original and spotless) and with custom upgrades you won’t find on any other vanagon.
Layout/Gear:
Dining Room: Comfortably seats four adults, I built this out to host dinners on during the pandemic after I had to close my restaurant.
- Solid white ash banquettes mounted onto steel frame, comfortable denim bench cushions.
- Table - cool looking laminate top, table mounts onto the side wall of the van, and can be removed and repositioned across the two banquettes to form a platform for an air mattress. The bed is a little snug for large humans, great for kids/dogs.
- Tons of storage under the banquettes, removable/washable rug.
- Ceiling wrap upholstery has been painted with champagne-white upholstery paint.
Upstairs - One of a kind rooftop configuration (over 5k in upgrades).
- Rooftop deck fabricated using a Frontrunner roof rack kit. The entire upstairs is elevated off the top of the van a few inches so wind can blow through, which helps keep the awning more stable. Vinyl liner over the crossbars to create a durable, safe and even platform to stand on or sit with a couple chairs. An easy to use retractable ladder secures onto the side.
- Roofnest - Incredible to sleep in. Well-insulated, with a very comfortable full-sized bed legit mattress. All four windows roll up for light or down for total blackout privacy. USB light, hanging garment bags. Easy to setup and break down.
"Patio"
- Fiama F45 retractable awning, great fixture.
- Custom bar made of solid white ash that mounts onto the opened sliding door.
- Astroturf roll straps above the awning and is handy for keeping the inside of the van clean
Kitchen
- Cabinet with sliding doors.
- Mass loaded vinyl liner on over engine compartment is easy to clean, super durable and also helps diffuse the engine noise a bit.
- Cooking dining gear - Lots of vintage-y enamelware, cooking utensils, assortment of hot/cold vessels/thermos. Cast iron pot. Cutting board, cleaning kit.
Cockpit
- Custom center console and dash upholstery wrap
- Relocated power window switches to center (if you're familiar with these vehicles you know how annoying the original door switches were)
- Good stereo
- All original seat upholstery, floor upholstery and mats in solid condition. Custom-fitted dash upholstery.
Wear and Tear: This van is in excellent condition, but these vehicles do need regular check-ups and TLC.
- The stereo will reset if you hit a pothole hard enough.
- 8-9 chips in the paint, all smaller than a pea, a couple of which are starting to show a touch of rust.
- Rear bumper has some city wear on it
- There are a small few tears in the dining room upholstery that I’ve remedied with a great upholstery paint, will walk you through how to do it.
- Outer awning cartridge and rain gutter were slightly bent when the wind took the awning up over the van, no wind issues after installing the rooftop deck.
