DESCRIPTION:

For sale is my 1990 Volvo 240 Wagon. The car is equipped with the rare M47 5-Speed manual transmission (not the older 4-speed plus overdrive type).

The car just passed Smog (on May 22, 2025).
Registration just renewed, good until May 2026

I bought the car in 2011, sold it in 2016 (mistake) and bought it back in 2018 (mistake corrected). So I have owned it for over 12 years out of the last 14.
It has been and is a good car. End of sentimental intro….

Please read entire post in order to not waste anybody’s time - yours or mine. Thank you.

Now….

The Good:

• New tires about 6 month ago and only about 500 miles driven since.
• New clutch June 2024 (Sachs kit including pilot bearing and throw-out bearing) Shifts perfectly.
• Has after market bucket seats in the front (upholstery matching original Volvo design)
• Front seats and back bench/backrest have new upholstery
• Roof rack (very solid, easily carries two kayaks)
• Great gas mileage (I get about 32 mls/gal long distance, when traveling at 75 mls/h. But since the most determined factor for gas mileage is located between the ears of the driver and the right foot connected to it, results may vary.)
• Blue tooth radio with USB port
• Navigation system
• Custom stainless steel cup holder! Hurray!
• New struts in the front (2018)
• New shocks in the back (2018)
• New springs in the back (2018)
• New motor mounts (2019)
• New brake pads on all four wheels (2019)
• New alternator (2019)
• Lots of suspension work done, bushings front and back (2018/2019)
• New brake booster and master cylinder (2019)
• New timing belt (2019)
• New air mass meter (2019)
• New Catalytic converter (2019)
• New head gasket (2023)
• New ball joints (front) (2024)
• New lower control arm bushings (front) (2024)
• New drive shaft support bearing (2024)
• New drive shaft u-joints (2025)
• Custom made collapsible “upper level and cargo cover” providing out of sight storage space underneath, solid enough to sleep on top of it (74” long) No tools required to set it up or collapse it.
• Set of curtains with Velcro connectors to cover all windows - camping privacy.
• Clean
• No rust

Now the not so good:

• Odometer doesn’t work (very common on the 240) and stopped at 246187, actual mileage estimated to be closer to 280.000. But since I’m not the first/only owner I can’t give any guarantees about the actual mileage.
• The AC doesn’t work, never has as long as I have owned the car. It has however - according to a sticker in the engine compartment - at some point (date is illegible) been converted to accepting the new refrigerant R 134A by “Swedish Auto Works”. So if you want to get the AC back in business, it’s ready for a charge. (I personally am no great fan of AC anyways and never really missed it. I just use the four power windows to condition the air (flow).

• The windshield developed a crack after a little something hit it.

• Central locking currently not functioning properly, to be precise the driver side back door needs attention. Central locking for all other doors and the tail gate works fine. (I am working on it…)

• Because of minor damage (dent in one door, scratched paint in additional areas) that occurred about 10 years ago in a parking lot, the perpetrator’s insurance company declared the car “totaled” which lead to its status “salvaged”.

• Two wheel covers recently went missing (I’m currently trying to get replacements.)

Attention!
The aluminum wheels and tires seen in some pictures are not part of the deal. The car will come - as seen in the last image - with a set of the original steel rims with new tires

The car is not necessarily a Concours d’Elegance candidate but has rock solid inner values and great performance.

245 Wagon, 5-Speed manual. One of the greatest cars ever made. The one you want to have available when Armageddon hits. So hurry!

Hate to let it go…
